OOU MEGA CARNIVAL 2016 & RAG DAY POSTPONED

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: OOU -MEGA CARNIVAL and RAG DAY POSTPONED.

The OOU-SUG regrettably announces to the entire student body, Sponsors, guests and general public that the Raise and Give day (RAG day) and the OOU-MEGA CARNIVAL that were scheduled to hold on 31st May and June 1st 2016 respectively have been postponed to new dates that will be announced shortly. These two days programs that are intensively packaged by the OOU-SUG to welcome back our students to a new semester and most importantly give the university that we own the much needed social uplift, has been botched by the university management’s persistent refusal to declare lecture free days for these two days and the Union is insistent that these two days must be lecture free, for our students cannot have fun, merry and celebrate culture while the fear of missing lectures is hanging over their heads.
The Student Union sees this is an abysmal development on the part of the school management and an affront to the collective social consciousness of our students. While not under-mining or being less appreciative of the remarkable improvement the University has experienced in recent years it is equally sadly observable the downward spiral OOU Social inclination has taken and the envious social status the university used to have has completely nose-dived. It is an indictment of the school management’s recalcitrant attitude towards Socials and it is why since the inception of this administration one of the core agenda of this administration is to revive the social life of our school and give it an uplift that befits it among the comity of institutions.
We must also emphasize that it is the first time that these type of innovative events will be happening in OOU (RAG day being a first in OOU and this MEGA-CARNIVAL will be the first to hold within the school premises and will be all external campuses inclusive). Perhaps, the school management is forgetting the saying that “all work with no play makes one dull” and we think the wisest step the management could take is to gauge the level of enthusiasm and anticipation of the students towards these two events and it will realize that its grand stall is needless and misplaced.
In the same vein, the Union and the MEGA Carnival committee will like to use this medium to sincerely apologize to the management of our invited guest artistes (YCEE, PEPENAZI and DIDI) and also our invited Nollywood stars (Sola Kosoko and Lateef Adedimeji). Also, to our magnanimous sponsors Globacom, Tecno Mobile, Phones for All, Guinness Origin Zero and Goldmyne Entertainment, we deeply apologize for any inconveniences this must have cost you. And to all private individuals and sister universities who have made commitments towards gracing the day we are sincerely sorry. Most importantly to our Students who are our backbone and pillar of support and for whom all these are packaged for we sincerely apologize to you.

Fellow students we urge you to let us see this postponement as a blessing in disguise as it will give more room for wider involvement and participation of every student and also external campuses. A new date will be duly announced after due consultations with the school management. We reiterate however, that the Union will insist that these two dates MUST be lecture free. Thank you.

ALUTA CONTINUA, VICTORIA ASCERTA !!!!
Long Live OOU.
