An Overview Of The OOUSUG Organized General Meeting Held Today August 24, 2016
The Olabisi Onabanjo University Students’ Union Government(OOUSUG) on Wednesday August 24, 2016 held a general meeting to further sample the opinion of students over the ongoing “work to rule” an indication of “no pay no work” embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, OOU branch.
The meeting which was attended by dogged students of the institution, engaged in brilliant discussion and gave some knowledgeable resolutions. These resolutions are:
1) It was agreed that an open letter be written to the Ogun State government on the precarious state of the University. The letter must address the following.
A) That the Ogun State government must start funding the institution adequately.
B) That the University must be managed democratically.
C) That the State government must see to the issue of police harassment in the community of Ago Iwoye and communities of other satellite campuses of the institution.
2 The union who has done with the 2Cs (Consultation & Consolidation) out of the 3cs of aluta has assumed a position and married the decision from students to employ the use of the last C which is confrontation in pursuance of their goals . However, the students’ union has implored all students to remain calm and allow proper planning be done before embarking on the planned “peaceful” protest. All preventive measures must be met and adequately examined before such constitutionally backed action must be embarked upon.
4) The effectiveness of the media especially broadcast media was further stressed as a good means through which students can channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters and allow public judgement prevail on the matter. At this juncture, it is imperative to say that a date is yet to be chosen for the peaceful demonstration.
The Students’ Union government under the leadership of Com. Tayo Mabunmi will continually protect the interest of it members. Students well-being and stress-free academic pursuit remain our topmost priority. We shall deliver more than expected.
Signed:
